Why is boron nitride a key material for Superplastic Forming (SPF)?

In superplastic forming, metals (such as aluminum) are deformed under high temperatures. Boron nitride is regarded as an absolute key material in these demanding conditions, as it enables particularly precise and clean forming processes. Thanks to the special material properties of boron nitride, unwanted carburization, short circuits and disruptive contamination on the workpieces are reliably prevented during forming.
